SEMA: Day 3 Highlights

Third Base

As The SEMA Show heads for the home stretch, we uncover even more Blue Oval hardware

By Steve Turner

By the time the third day of this massive show rolls around, most people are talking more about how much their feet hurt, rather than how much cool hardware is on the show floor. It’s certainly part of the trade show dance, but your friends at SVTP kept on pushing through the pain, walking down down the aisles, and finding more gear for you to drool over.

One of the most intriguing 2015 Mustangs on display was this Full Race-prepped EcoBoost ride, which promises to put down over 500 horsepower once it’s tuned up. We had the chance to check out the company’s turbo upgrade kit, and we can’t wait to dig deeper into this combo. With a host of Penske and Whiteline suspension upgrades, this ride should tear it up in Time Attack, where the company plans to campaign it.

Perhaps more than any other SEMA Show in recent memory, this one seems like a Ford-dominated event. From the top-notch Ford display inside to the spectacular Ford Out Front action outside, the Blue Oval is shining brightly in Vegas.

It also seems like those good vibes have rubbed off on the aftermarket. There are Ford vehicles and parts around every corner.

On Thursday we stretched from the main floor all the way to the Wheel & Tire hall on our hunt for more cars and parts. So, keep reading to see what got our shutters clicking.

Remember the Shelby GT500 testing with Snow Performance water-meth that we covered? Well Matt Snow and company have really ramped the car up. It now makes 1,000 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a Hellion twin-turbo kit, a three-nozzle Snow system, and a new Snow intercooler spraying system. We will definitely bring you more details on this build.

MSD Ignition debuted some new Coyote Blaster coils at the show, and they might just sell a lot of them based on their companion coil “covers,” which let the world see your Blaster coils.

Want to run 37-inch-tall tires to your Raptor and add a lot of adjustability to the suspension; you might want to check out this robust Stage 4 Suspension Kit from Rogue Racing. They have setups for the front and rear of the SVT pickup.

With any luck you caught our preview story on Steeda’s 2015 Mustang. We finally had a chance to see it in person as it sat in the Nitto Tire booth. The car looked sharp, and we look forward to seeing how it drives.

We stumbled on this cool front license plate mount from Sto N Show. If you live in a state where a front plate is required, you can keep your GT500 legal by running this bracket, which has a quick release, so you can remove it and throw it in the trunk at car shows.

We have been bugging the crew at Holley Performance Products to make more Ford stuff for years. It paid off this year, as the company’s Hooker division showed of a complete exhaust system for the 2015 Mustang, while Holley itself finally has Coyote-specific wiring harnesses for its vaunted standalone EFI systems.

Starting in January owners of WiFi-equipped Bully Dog and SCT tuners will be able to download custom tunes from the cloud. Tuners will upload the files to a server, and when you connect your device to WiFi it will automatically add any new tune files to the device.

When we profiled Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s drifting program, we dropped by ASD Motorsports. While there we were sworn to secrecy when they showed us the Hoonicorn under construction. The only all-wheel-drive 1965 Mustang on the planet, this carbon-fiber-bodied ride will star in Gymkana 7 with Ken Block behind the wheel.
