While the Flat Rock Assembly Plant has produced cars since 1987, today it started another chapter in the storied history of the Ford Mustang. To this point, over 9.2 million Mustangs have been built, and now that number started growing, as the first Mustang available all over the world started rolling off the assembly line.

If you have been anxiously awaiting the 2015 Mustang you ordered, you can start getting excited. Production has begun.

“Mustang is and will continue to be an automotive icon,” Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas, said. “Expanding its availability globally affords our customers around the world the opportunity to have a true firsthand Mustang experience—one unlike any other.”

There are 3,000 employees working two shifts at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. They build both Mustangs and Fusions at this plant.

To gear up for worldwide production, Ford reportedly invested over $550 million into the plant to prep the facility and support over 3,000 workers. Together the facility and crew not only create the new Mustang, but the Ford Fusion as well.

“What an honor it is for the hardworking and dedicated UAW Local 3000 workers of Flat Rock Assembly Plant to build the next-generation Mustang,” UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles said. “I don’t think there is any place in the world where this vehicle is not known. To build it right here in Michigan is something to be proud of.”

And, thanks to the efforts of these workers, we are one step closer to finally enjoying the 2015 Mustang!

From the 5.0-liter-powered GT to the base V-6, all versions of the 2015 Mustang roll off the same line at Flat Rock.
