By now, you know all to well about the rarity of the 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang. Only 1,964 of these unique Mustangs will be constructed for the 2015 model year to celebrate the Mustang’s 50th birthday. If you haven’t already secured one of these, it’s quite likely they are all sold out. All but the last one built, that is. And, if you want to bid on it at the Barrett-Jackson auction from September 25-27, that special example could be yours.
If you do win the auction, the Ford executives on hand will autograph the car. “We wanted to provide our most dedicated fans with the emotion of the original Mustang in a 21st century car,†Bill Ford said. “With this 50 Year Limited Edition, I believe we have accomplished our goal.â€
Before the car arrives at Barrett-Jackson, it will debut at an event for the charity it will be sold for. All proceeds of the auction will benefit Get Your Heart Racing, a fundraising event supporting Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute. The charity will host a Pit Party fundraiser held at Eastern Market in Detroit on Sept. 12.
“The Get Your Heart Racing program has become our biggest annual fundraiser, and everybody who participates seems to love it,†Sandy Hudson, chief development officer, Henry Ford Hospital, said. “With the help of our sponsors—especially Ford Motor Company—we’re looking to 2014 to be our biggest and best year yet.â€
Not only will the winner of this auction score a truly special car, they will get a pretty great trip as well. The winner of this auction will receive a VIP package to the Ford EcoBoost 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 16, where No. 1,964 will pace the championship race.
“Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car,†said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “The visceral look, sound, and performance of Mustang resonate with people, even if they’ve never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car—it is the heart and soul of Ford Motor Company.â€
Well, it’s hard not to be passionate about the Mustang, especially a Mustang this rare. If you are lucky enough to place the winning bid, you will drive home in a special piece of history.
