Ford and Microsoft to show off Ford-inspired Forza controllers at SEMA

By now you know that Ford is making a huge push with a wide range of customize project vehicles—ranging from Fiesta STs and Edge Sports to F-150s and EcoBoost Mustangs—at next week’s Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Well, the company is also pushing with some customized equipment that fuses Ford racing history with modern video gaming.

If you are going to race the new Ford GT in Forza Motorsport, you have to do it with one of these new controllers inspired by the car. It features a carbon fiber body, a see-through battery cover, and actuators inspired by the Ford GT steering wheel and paddle shifters.

As loyal Front Page readers know, Microsoft already released a limited-edition Xbox inspired by the Ford Performance Ford GT. Now the company is back with four controllers meant for Forza Motorsport that celebrate the past and future of Ford’s racing endeavors.

“In the true spirit of SEMA, the Forza Motorsport team has created a trio of Ford historical racing themed Xbox One controllers as well as a high performance model of their Elite controller designed with the all-new Ford GT in mind,” says Ford. “SEMA is all about performance, reaching enthusiasts through unique products and pushing the limits of an individual platform, the Forza Motorsport team has embraced that idea with these concepts.”

For those that want to game old-school, Microsoft has a trio of new Moments in Motorsport retro controllers including this one inspired by Bob Bondurant and Dan Gurney 1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe Le Mans racer.

The headliner of these new devices is an Xbox Elite controller that takes cues from the forthcoming Ford GT. These cues aren’t just stylistic either, as this controller features a lightweight, carbon fiber body, just like the real Ford GT. And, it even has a see-through battery door and a battery inspired by the Ford GT engine compartment. Its left thumbstick looks like a GT steering wheel, while its paddles take inspiration from the Ford GT’s steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Naturally, the Liquid Blue paint on the device was sprayed to Ford’s specs.

If you would rather celebrate the storied racing history of Ford’s Total Performance era while playing the driving game, Microsoft is also releasing a trio of retro-themed, Moments in Motorsports controllers: one celebrating Bob Bondurant and Dan Gurney’s 1964 Le Mans in the GT class win in a Shelby Daytona Coupe, one celebrating Ford’s 1-2-3 Le Mans finish in the 1966 Ford GT Mark IIs, and one celebrating Ford’s race of the century Le Mans title defense in a 1967 Ford GT Mark IV.
