Certainly there are some Shelby GT500s that are kept stock in hopes they will one day bring home a TV auction windfall. However, in our experience, most of these cars at least get the quartet of a cold-air intake, a blower pulley, an exhaust system, and tuning. With the stock cars already making over 500 lb-ft of torque at the flywheel, it doesn’t take too many mods before it’s time to put the stock clutch on borrowed time.
If you want a clutch that will handle all the torque you can throw at it and not work out your calf muscle like a leg press, Centerforce now offers its dual-disc DYAD DS clutches for the 2009-2014 Shelby GT500 (PN 04115705; $1,798.61).
“The DYAD DS multi-disc clutch system offers extremely high holding capacity while retaining stock-like noise levels and easy-to-modulate pedal feel. It utilizes Centerforce’s patented ball-bearing pressure plate, multi-disc floating/drive disc design and the Centerforce centrifugal weight system,†says the company. “The DYAD DS requires no special setup or adjustment, and it comes fully assembled with ARP hardware. Also, each DYAD includes a detailed inspection form, giving the owner all the specifications about their new clutch. With a torque holding capacity of over 1,300 lb-ft at the flywheel, the DYAD DS is engineered to handle most high-horsepower scenarios.â€

Yes, you heard that right—1,300 lb-ft! With light pedal effort and that kind of clamping force, the DYAD DS seems like a great option for big-power street Shelbys.
