Powerstroke Inside
2018 F-150 update more than skin deep.
By SID297
The fact that the 2018 F-150 was getting a 3.0 Powerstroke Diesel engine was the worst kept secret in the auto industry since the S550 Mustangs IRS. Â Still, the updated F-150 has a lot of changes the Ford faithful should be very excited about. Â Beyond the obvious new styling (which I think looks great), there are a host of powertrain updates.
Ford is going to be installing the new 10R80 transmission across the F-150 line except for with the base engine, which happens to be an all new 3.3L V6. Â The 2.7L EcoBoost is getting port fuel injection added to its fuel system, but the biggest news is obviously the new(ish) 3.0L Powerstroke. Â I say new’ish because the 3.0L Lion diesel has been used in Land Rovers for several years and was actually developed by Ford during their PAG (Premier Automotive Group) ownership period.
There’s no official word yet on power output, but variants of the 3.0 in Europe develop 271HP and 440 lbft of torque. Â That version of the engine also features twin turbochargers. Â The 5.0L Coyote V8 is also slated to receive some as-of-yet unmentioned updates. Â Click below to see the full 2018 F-150 thread in the SVTPerformance forums.
