Are you one of the 6,006 Ford GT applicants that didn’t get approved to buy the carbon-fiber super car in the first two years of production? Well, you can celebrate today because those won’t be the only two years of GT production. That’s because Ford just announced that it was extending the supercar’s production cycle by two more years.
“While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors,†Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance, said. “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.â€
With the first 500 Ford GTs being allocated primarily to previous GT owners, a lot of supercar suitors were left out in the cold when the application status letters hit mailboxes recently. With two more years of production, waitlisted applicants will be served in the third year, while anyone that didn’t apply the first time around will have another crack in early 2018.
