If you didn’t have the loot to step up to the optional racing buckets in your new Mustang or you just wanted to have the added creature comforts of heated and cooled seats, there is another seating option. The interior experts at TMI Products recently unveiled the Sport R High-Back Seat Upholstery and Foam Kit for the 2015+ Mustang GT seats.
Like its upholstery kits for S197 Mustangs, the latest TMI kits for the S550 platform are designed to add significant support and style to your existing Mustang GT seats with a complete makeover inside and out.
“The TMI Sport R Upholstery kit has a full set of upholstery—two front buckets and a rear seat cover—as well as two new high-back seat foams that fit on your factory frames,†TMI Products Sales Manager, Waylon Krumrie said. “What sets the TMI upholstery apart is both the aesthetics and comfort. Obviously we’ve completely redesigned the front buckets, giving them a high back with an integrated headrest and we’ve great increased the bolster size for better support.â€
What really makes these seats attractive to those that ordered the Premium package that includes heated and cooled seats is that you can retain these creature comforts while adding the support and style of the TMI kit. In fact, this upholstery allows you to keep all the factory options you ordered.
“Absolutely,†Waylon confirmed. “And, better yet, the upholstery kit is also airbag-compliant and you’ll also retain all of your factory power options. So you get the look and feel of a high-end race seat but without the usual sacrifice of all power amenities and safety options.â€
Moreover, you can get all these features without heading to an upholstery shop, which will save you some money. That’s right, you can install these kits yourself.
“There are a great number of members here on SVTP that have installed our upholstery by themselves and nailed the install,†Waylon said. “In fact, if you stopped by the TMI booth at either Mustang Week or the American Muscle car show earlier this year and saw any of the Mustangs I had in those booths, it’s worth mentioning that all of those interiors were done by the owners of the cars, without any previous installation experience, and they all looked professionally done!â€
Certain models are currently available at your favorite Mustang retailer, and the pricing is quite similar to the previous kits. Expect a street price around $1,000 for the whole package.
