A peek at the first rear-wheel dyno numbers for the Voodoo 5.2-liter engine

By Steve Turner

We have long known that the Flat-Plane-Crank 5.2-liter engine in the new Shelby GT350 is rated at 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. However, most of us really measure the performance of our cars at the rear wheels. Finally someone has gotten access to the high-flying Shelby and strapped it down to the Dynojet—and the numbers are pretty impressive.

Motor Trend tested the Shelby GT350 on the Dynojet at K&N Engineering and it put down 467 horsepower and 374 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels.

Students of the sport know that the mainstream auto magazines get extended early access to vehicles for testing, and the crew at Motor Trend is the first to put that access to good use by strapping a Shelby GT350 to a chassis dyno. Its editors drove the car to K&N Engineering to get those rear-wheel numbers. The weather wasn’t ideal, at 100 degrees, but the car put down peak outputs of 467 horsepower and 374 lb-ft of torque.

Now that we’ve seen the stock numbers, we can’t wait to see what these cars will put down after they’ve been modded. If you’ve got an opinion about these numbers, you can chime in over on our forums right here.
