Plan Ahead

Next year’s racing schedule is out, so plan those vacation days now

By Steve Turner

The Ford drag racing season may have come to an end last week in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but it’s never too early to start thinking about next year. In fact, the season will launch before you know it, so you better get to work on that race car now. One thing is for sure; you can now start planning your vacation days around the 2016 National Mustang Racers Association schedule.

The NMRA recently released its 2016 schedule of events, so you can plan those vacation days so you can get out to the track and do more of this (or at least watch it).
The NMRA recently released its 2016 schedule of events, so you can plan on getting out to the track to do more of this (or at least watch it) next year.

That’s right, the NMRA recently released its calendar of events for next year, and it includes some new venues on the tour:

March 3-6, 2016
NMRA Spring Break Shootout
Bradenton Motorsports Park, Bradenton, Florida

April 7-10, 2016
NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals
Atlanta Dragway, Commerce, Georgia

April 28-May 1, 2016
NMRA Ford Motorsport Nationals
Maple Grove Raceway, Mohnton, Pennsylvania

June 9-12, 2016
NMRA All-Ford Supernationals
National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio

July 28-31, 2016
NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing
Route 66 Raceway, Joliet, Illinois

Sept. 29-Oct. 2, 2016
NMRA All-Ford World Finals
Beech Bend Raceway Park, Bowling Green, Kentucky

Both of the “new” stops revisit tracks with plenty of Ford racing history. Maple Grove long hosted the Ford Motorsport Nationals back in the day and was the site of several of the Stormin’ Norman 5.0 Shootout events. As such, it’s only natural the NMRA would want to revisit a track located in the hotbed of Mustang drag racing.

NMRA_FordNatSeriesNEW“Moving to Maple Grove Raceway puts us back into the exciting Philadelphia and New Jersey markets, we haven’t been there in a few years,” NMRA National Event Director Rollie Miller said. “We are looking forward to working with Lex Dudas and his staff, bringing back the Ford Motorsport Nationals to Maple Grove.”

Likewise, National Trail Raceway hosted the original Super Ford magazine 5.0 Shootout, which eventually spawned the entire Ford drag racing craze.

“We have a lot of racers in the Ohio Valley region, and National Trail Raceway presents an exciting opportunity for our NMRA brand.” Rollie added. “Like Maple Grove Raceway, NMRA has a storied history with this facility. The central location combined with the recent updates Mike Fornataro and his team have made to the facility make it an ideal location for NMRA.”

Of course, your friends at SVTP will be out there covering these events throughout the season, so we hope to see you there.
