Event: Mustang Week 2015, Day 2

Cruise Line

Mustang fans cruised in, lined up for T-shirts, and slid around cones

The beauty of Mustang Week is the casual nature of most of the events. Only participants of the official car show are locked into a schedule on Friday. However, most of the event’s activities allow for you to arrive and depart as you wish. That said, over the years people have taken the event’s official kick-off more seriously. The Mustang Week Meet ’N Greet is the place to see and be seen as the week gets up to speed.

What makes Mustang Week one of our favorite events of the year is that it brings out street performance Mustangs of all years and models. That didn’t change this year. In fact, the Meet ’N Greet brought out even more impressive Mustangs in 2015.
What makes Mustang Week one of our favorite events of the year is that it brings out street performance Mustangs of all years and models. That didn’t change this year. In fact, the Meet ’N Greet brought out even more impressive Mustangs in 2015.

We still remember when this event fit in the much smaller Planet Hollywood parking lot across the street. This year the Meet ’N Greet kicked off a bit earlier in the spacious parking lot of the Palace Theater attached to the massive Broadway at the Beach shopping and entertainment complex. First thing in the morning and much of the adjoining parking was swollen with Mustangs.

Of course, part of the allure in getting to the Meet ’N Greet early is not only to grab a good parking spot and get your Mustang Week started, it is to join the line for the coveted Mustang Week T-shirts. You definitely don’t want to miss out on getting your preferred style, and always shows there is a strong demand for the Mustang Week brand.

You can get an idea of the scope of the Cruise-In and the T-shirt line in this slick drone video from our friends at Bullitt Auto Detail…

As the kick-off for the event, the Mustang Week Meet ’N Greet offers a great opportunity for the event staff to reveal the latest Mustang Week edition cars built in concert with Palmetto Ford. As cool as the two 2015 Mustangs are, they were overshadowed by the reveal of Caleb Cook’s Mustang Week Edition Power Wheels!

As the event wound down, the Mustang Week staff took the opportunity for a special reveal. They have long worked with the team at Palmetto Ford to create Mustang Week Edition Mustangs to commemorate the event. This year, they worked together on two 2015 Mustang GTs with bolt-on mods and Mustang Week accents.

What made this year’s event more special was the reveal of Caleb Cook’s Power Wheels Mustang. A four-year-old that has a congenital heart defect, Caleb’s request to the Make A Wish Foundation was a trip to Mustang Week. He was flown to Mustang Week and given the full VIP treatment. He was truly the star of the event, and you can see him presented with his Power Wheels Mustang, which was customized to look like a Mustang Week Edition by Bullitt Auto Detail…

After a few hours in the South Carolina sun, you might work up an appetite—and a thirst. Lucky for the SVTP members in attendance we once again hosted our Pizza at the Cruise-In party at the Mellow Mushroom across the street. This year the rain held off and we had a great crowd on hand to talk cars and enjoy a meal.

We don’t have to wait in line to buy many things these days, but if you want to ensure that you get your Mustang Week swag of choice you’ll have to endure this line. The Mustang Week staff works hard to sell the gear as briskly as possible, but the demand grows every year.

Of course, concurrent with the Meet ’N Greet was an Autocross Driving School at the Myrtle Beach Speedway put on by the folks at BFGoodrich. Over the years, the interest in this program has grown. It offered a beginner’s class in the morning and an advance class in the afternoon, and this year’s event had an Are You Driver Enough contest that awarded an impressive prize to the driver with the quickest lap time.

In all, it was a great first day of Mustang Week 2015…

Meet ’N Greet

The two Mustang Week Editions turned out great, and we captured one of these S550 stunners after the Meet ’N Greet crowd subsided at the Palace Theater. If you like this car or its sibling, one or both might still be for sale at Palmetto Ford.

It seems bagged S550s are a growing trend. We spotted several 2015 Mustangs dropped on airbag suspensions at Mustang Week. Many of those were boosted with Whipple superchargers, which makes for a potent package of show and go. This red example is bagged with bolt-ons, including a paint-matched JLT cold-air intake.

At first blush, you might think this is just a nicely preserved SN-95 Cobra convertible, but one look under the hood tells you this snake carries a bit more Venom than it did from the factory. Its Four-Valve 4.6 is boosted by a Hellion single-turbo kit feeding and Edelbrock carb-style manifold.

Blower swaps and Terminators are like peanut butter and jelly. They make a good pair. We see also sorts of bigger positive-displacement blowers atop the forged Four-Valves in these Cobras. However, it’s not often that we see someone move to a centrifugal, but ProCharger offered a conversion kit and this car has one installed. This kit is complete right down to bolt-on upper intake manifold that replaces the factory Roots supercharger.

It was nice to see our SVTP Editor’s Choice award winner from last year’s show. Chris Payne’s Three-Valve Fox is a beautiful ride. He hasn’t updated it much since last year, but Chris did hook up the air conditioning to make his Mustang Week experience even more pleasant.

SVTP Pizza Party

SVTP once again celebrated the first official day of Mustang Week activities with its annual Pizza at the Cruise-In party. After a morning of checking out all the great Mustangs, SVTP members headed over to the Mellow Mushroom patio across the street to join us for a slice, a refreshment, and to grab wristbands for the highly anticipated Ready to Rock Night party of Friday.

Hot Mustangs ringed the parking lot of Mellow Mushroom during our event, including Brad Gusler’s BG Racing EcoBoost “street car.”

It’s one thing to discuss things with your friends on SVTP, but it’s always fun to hang with your online pals in person. We enjoyed sharing a slice with our fellow SVTPers.

Autocross School

For the past few years, BFGoodrich has sponsored an Autocross Driving School at the Myrtle Beach Speedway on the opening day of Mustang Week festivities. This year the company continued that tradition and augmented it with an Are You Driver Enough? competition in 2015 Mustangs.

It’s great to see the interest in this event grow each year. BFGoodrich hosts beginner and advanced classes at Mustang Week, and both sessions attracted nearly 30 cars.

If you want to enhance your driving skills to match your car’s capabilities these low-pressure schools offer a great learning experience, and they are a lot of fun too.
