The Chosen Few

Select Mustang owners have the opportunity to drive the new GT350

By Steve Turner

Ford has become expert at grabbing our interest and holding when it comes its most anticipated products. In recent months the curtain has slowly pulled back and we have learned about key characteristics of the forthcoming Shelby GT350 and GT350R. However, learning about its power output and hearing its Flat-Plane Crank 5.2-liter engine rev has only served to stoke our anticipation for one thing—driving this impressive machine.

Being a loyal Ford Performance customer definitely pays off. If you are the owner of a 2013-2014 GT500, a 2012-2013 Boss, or a 50th Anniversary 2015 GT, you might just be one of the first people to drive the forthcoming Shelby GT350.

Well, if you happen to be the owner of a 2013-2014 Shelby GT500, a 2012-2013 Boss 302 or a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition 2015 Mustang, you might just have that opportunity. Recently some owners of these cars have received letters inviting them to participate in the Ford Performance North American Track Tour.

“Congratulations! We at Ford Performance are pleased to invite you to the exclusive 2015 GT350 North American Track Tour,” says the invitation. “This invite-only opportunity is being offered to a select group of special guests…”

It’s interesting that this event specifically mentions North America. Obviously, it’s taking place at tracks in the United States. Could that mean the Shelby GT350 might tour tracks outside of North America as well?

And, yes, those guests will feel special. The event will offer the opportunity to ride and drive in the new Shelby GT350 at one of four historic road courses. The tracks are as follows:

  • August 27-28: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Salinas, California
  • September 9-10: Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
  • September 30-October 1: Lime Rock Park, Salisbury, Connecticut
  • October 12-13: Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Florida

However, don’t show up at one of these tracks expecting to jump behind the wheel if you weren’t invited. These are invite-only events, but the lucky attendees are definitely in for a good time. If you want to hear from some of the lucky participants, you can join the discussion in the Track Tour thread over on our forum.

The new Shelby GT350 is a rare breed, an the chance to drive one is an even rarer experience. Thanks to the Ford Performance Track Tour, you might get the chance to drive the next historic Mustang.

  1. It has been a while since I have been here. Still have my 04 CO Cobra. #505. Have enjoyed it from the first time I dove it home. Has never had a snow flake on it. Thanks for the shoot out films.
