Ford Performance machines impress on the Goodwood hill climb
By Steve Turner
Today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom, the man who was once behind the helmet on Top Gear as The Stig, Ben Collins, piloted a Race Red Shelby GT350R and Ken Block, of Gymkhana fame, drove a Focus RS on the famed 1.16-mile hill climb course.
The Goodwood event is a bucket-list happening for automotive enthusiasts, and it marked the first time that the Shelby GT350R appeared in Europe. As you can see, it made quite an impression in its first showing. Ben came blasting out of the gates smoking the rear tires and the Flat-Plane-Crank 5.2.-liter engine sounded simply amazing…
After watching this, we are even more amped up to experience what the new Shelby is all about.
In comparison, Ken Block‘s jaunt up the Goodwood hill in the new Focus RS looked pretty reserved. We expected to see the Hoonigan drifting around the course, but he was warned to stay off the grass before this lap, so he might have held back a bit…
Here’s a look at Ken’s second run with sound right out of the GoPro camera…
With its just-announced 345-horsepower capabilities, we have no doubt the next-gen RS will be an absolute blast.
