A few weeks back we shared details with you on Roush Performance’s Active Exhaust system, which they showed off on video. Well the system is getting closer to release, as noted by the unveiling of a new site dedicated to the system and the availability of a new app that enables custom exhaust sounds.
“Roush Performance is pleased to introduce the all-new Roush Active Exhaust system, a patent-pending variable exhaust control available as optional equipment on the 2015 Roush Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 Mustangs,†says the company. “The innovative systems allows drivers to ‘tune’ the exhaust note of their Roush using an iOS application and vehicle parameters for virtually infinite sound possibilities, utilizing digitally controlled actuators that can be mapped through an OBD-II-based Wi-Fi interface. The flow of exhaust is adjusted, thereby altering tone and volume.â€
If you missed it the last time around, you can hear the Active system in action right here…
Yes, exhaust cutouts are nothing new. However, the Roush system takes this concept to a new level thanks to its customizable tones. The standard system features three preloaded modes: Touring, Sport, and Track. As you would expect, the Touring system keeps the tones muted, while the Sport system takes the volume up a notch. Meanwhile, the Track setting just lets the Roush system roar.
Beyond the preloaded settings, the Active Exhaust can further be customized using the aforementioned iOS app, which just hit the App Store. Using this program on an Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch you can customize the sound of the system so it sounds just like you want it to.
“If one of the other three modes isn’t suiting your taste, you have the ability to create your own via our user-friendly application,†says the company. “Allow your inner tuner to take the wheel. You want your Roush to be super quiet leaving your neighborhood at 25 mph, but wake up every driver on the highway? You can make that happen.â€
By simply tapping squares on a grid you can dial in the exhaust tone based on throttle angle and vehicle speed. The cutouts will open to the percentage you desire based on how you are driving the car. You can save these files to your phone so that you can change them out as you wish, and you can even share them with your friends that want to try your tune on their Active Exhaust.
