There is no doubt that the most coveted engine-swap centerpiece in our wheel house is Ford’s vaunted 5.0-liter Coyote engine. From street rods and kit cars to Fox Mustangs and race cars, the Coyote is a potent powerplant that brings a modern caché to any project car. Of course, if you are swapping in a performance engine, you likely want complete control over its behavior.
That’s where Holley’s popular Dominator EFI system comes into play. These fuel-injection controllers have proven quite popular with racers and project car builders thanks to their self-learning capabilities and multiple control features. Now Holley’s Dominator is available with an easy way to mate them to the Coyote engine—a plug-and-play wiring harness (PN 550-618; $1,849.95).
“Holley HP EFI systems are equipped with four programmable inputs and four programmable outputs that are ideal for most vehicles with a single power adder,†says Holley. “This feature allows the user to configure the system to support a wide range of controls including boost control, progressive nitrous, water/meth injection, speed inputs, fuel pump control, A/C inputs, timing retard inputs and various other uses.â€
The supplied harness allows for direct connections with the factory crank position sensor, cam-position sensor, and cylinder-head temp sensors, as well as the factory coil packs. There are few caveats, but you will have to add Holley oil temp and fuel pressure sensors. You will also need to disable the Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing and lock the cams into position, as the system doesn’t yet offer cam control.
For more on the installation of the system, you can look over the manual right here.
Great to see another Coyote tuning option out there.
