Brittni Krumrie gives birth on the side of the road in her Ford Flex

If you are a regular reader of the site, you are no doubt familiar with TMI Products. You may have even met the company’s Sales Manager, Waylon Krumrie, out there on the show circuit showing off the company’s extensive line of Ford interior products. Well, Waylon’s wife Brittni has a whole different perspective on Ford interiors. She gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Scarlett Vera Krumrie, inside the couple’s Ford Flex.

“…Originally my wife was driving a rally blue WRX TR, which had little to no room for car seats let alone any room for ‘activities,’” Waylon explained. “After we had our first son, we decided we needed something a bit bigger and we both have always loved the Ford Flex.”

While the Krumries had definitely planned on a natural birth for their daughter, the Flex was not the place they planned for the birth to take place. On Tuesday March 24, it was time for the baby to arrive. Waylon headed off to drop their son off at his baby sitter, while his mother, Darla Hewitt, drove Brittni to the local hospital in the Flex.

Darla ran into heavy traffic on California’s I-15 en route to the hospital, and that’s when Scarlett made it known that she was ready to enter the world—whether they were at the hospital or not. It was then that the family’s Ford Flex became an impromptu delivery room.

Brittni calmly said it was time to pull over and have the baby. With the help of her mother-in-law, Brittni moved to the back seat of the Flex. Two pushes and five or so minutes later, 8-pound Scarlett was born and wrapped up in Mrs. Hewitt’s leopard Cardigan sweater.

“My mother and wife say that although they wouldn’t suggest having a baby in a Flex, it was actually quite roomy and didn’t in any way hinder the process,” Waylon said. “I’m just happy we opted for easily cleanable leather seats!”

More amazing than the roadside birth is that Brittni remained calm and in control. After the birth, they were met by firemen, paramedics, and police. An ambulance took mother and daughter to the hospital, where Waylon had already arrived. When Brittni rolled in on a stretcher, she received kudos from the hospital staff on hand.

“Everyone at the hospital was so impressed (as was I) with my wife and mother’s calm demeanor. The nurses kept telling my wife how remarkable her story was. She basically got a standing ovation on her way in and out of the hospital!” Waylon said. “Hell, even the security guard stopped me on the way out to say he’d heard our story and told me ‘That’s quite a little lady you’ve got there!’”

Now the whole family is safely back at home, but they definitely have a story to tell for many years to come.

“As a Ford guy—with a big ol’ Ford V-8 tattooed on his arm—it’s really amazing to say my wife and daughter are now both certifiably ‘Ford Tough!’” Waylon added.
