If you have been following the saga of Bama Performance’s 2015 Mustang project car, you know that this ebony machine laid down the quarter-mile law as the first 9-second S550. After shedding unnecessary weight, the car was equipped with nitrous, induction, and exhaust mods. These upgrades and the driving of Justin Burcham added up to a record-setting 9.91 quarter-mile e.t.
Not wanting to rest on its laurels, this division of American Muscle has been hard at work developing its own supercharger kit based on the new front-feed Whipple 2.9-liter unit. Bama’s kit will round out the Whipple Superchargers system with the necessary support for the kind of performance you will see below, including fuel injectors, spark plugs, a fuel pump voltage booster, and the necessary calibration of the TriCor PCM.
To see how its new combination would fare on the drag strip, the company found an eighth-mile track in North Carolina that was open in the winter. It’s a bit cold in the Northeast for drag strip runs lately, so the short-sprint would serve as preview for the blower setup’s quarter-mile potential. That preview went well, as you can see here…
With the supercharger churning out 11 pounds of boost and Justin rowing the gears, the Bama Performance 2015 Mustang clicked off a solid eight-mile pass of 6.37 at 114.8 mph. Clearly, this is just the beginning for this record-setting car and its new combo, so it should be fun to see where it goes from here.
