Have you ever been to an automotive event where skilled drivers were taking on passengers for so-called hot laps? There is no better way to learn the true capabilities of a car than riding shotgun when someone with a gift for car control pilots it. They can make the most of what the vehicle has to offer, and you get to enjoy the display.
Case in point is Ford Special Vehicle Team Program Manager, Shaun Day. “This is me having the best work day ever. On Friday I gave hot-lap rides to the participants of the Mustang Alley Track Day at the Dearborn Proving Grounds,†he enthused.
Now, any hot lap in a Shelby GT500 is a good hot lap, but apparently Shaun earned a bit of a rep that day, as he was drifting through the hairpin and leaving a cloud of smoke. He soon had a line of people wanting a ride. At least 10 of his passengers strapped in and said, “I hear this is the car that gives the best rides.â€
Well, based on this shot, we’d have to agree. You can’t just go to any amusement park and get four wheels off the ground in a GT500. That is definitely a thrill ride. It also makes you wonder what the passenger on this smoking-hot lap was thinking. So, how about putting those thoughts in caption form?
