Remember when export fender flares were all the rage on SN-95s? OK, maybe only a few people really liked them. The point being, there is just something alluring about adding the forbidden fruit that is export parts to your Mustang. With the 2015 Mustang ready to take off internationally, we expect this trend to grow.
Previewing of some of those parts headed over the border was this 2015 Mustang. We spotted it during a recent trip to Michigan taking in the Woodward Dream Cruise, Mustang Alley, and the Mustang Memories show.
At first glance, you might think it was just another S550 looking sharp in Race Red. Well, there are a few subtle differences that make it legal for its eventual destination in China. Most evident are those white taillamps, which will probably become a popular aftermarket addition. The other more subtle tweaks are larger side-view mirrors and amber marker lights.
Certainly the changes are pretty minor. You won’t confuse the export 2015 Mustang for anything but a Mustang. However, with the car hitting dealers all across the globe, there is no telling what unique parts might surface from the factory and the aftermarket across the world.
The 2015 Mustang, it would seem, is setting out to live in interesting times.
I was at Mustang Memories and walked right past the car and never gave it a second look. Good eye for those that caught it.
They are subtle changes, but SID297 has an eye for detail!
I really like the Export taillights. I think they can look better than the US spec ones depending on the color of the car.
